Abstract

210,480. Benoit, A. L. Oct. 3, 1922. Filtering-media.-Chrome leather shavings or like scrap from the chrome leather industry are used as filtration and absorption material for purifying liquids. The scrap is dried in air, and the coarser parts, after separation from the finer particles, are used as the filtering medium. If drinking water is to be prepared from waste liquors, the scrap is first extracted with water, acetic acid, or other suitable chemicals. The scrap may be used in conjunction with other decolourising media, and is regenerated by extraction with water or by treatment with chemicals. It can be used for purifying sugar juice.
