Abstract
210,334. Stokes, J. G. P. April 23, 1923. Aiming-rests.-A stand, especially for use in testing rifles and for teaching purposes, comprises a carrier in which the rifle is firmly but yieldingly held in a manner simulating the human grip, the carrier being able to recoil against a spring which returns it to the original position after firing. The carrier comprises a socket f for the butt of the rifle and a forked support k<1> for the fore-part both carried by a recoil bar e mounted to slide in bearings d<10> and pressed forwards by the recoil spring e<2>. The bearings d<10> are formed on a bar d which is mounted by trunnions d<1> in a yoke c and is elevated by screw gear d<4>, d<5>. The yoke c is mounted by a vertical pivot on a bracket b, and is trained by a worm c<2> engaging a racked segment c<2> on a bar c<1> projecting from the yoke. Scales and clicking indicators are provided on both the elevating and training gears. The rifle is held down on the supports f, k<1> by adjustable resiliently held straps h<1>, i. Springs k<8>, k<2>, Fig. 4, in the front fork k<1>, allow of lateral and downward movements of the .rifle, caused for instance by an incorrect pull-off. In order to indicate when such movements have occurred, these springs are formed as electric contacts adapted to touch contacts k<10>, k<5> and close circuits through indicators k<11>, k<6>.
