Abstract
210,260. Linotype & Machinery, Ltd., Bugger, A. V., and Delafons, T. E. Jan. 9, 1923. Delivery apparatus.- Sheet-delivery mechanism, of the kind wherein the sheets are transferred on to a reciprocating carriage during its outward travel and are swept therefrom on to the delivery board during its inward travel by pivoted pusher fingers swung into vertical position between the bars of the carriage, comprises the combination with a spring device, such as a spring toggle which holds the pusher fingers in their terminal horizontal and vertical positions against fixed stops, of means controlling the operation of the pusher fingers in opposition to the action of the spring device at the time the spring device is acting to bring the fingers to their terminal positions so that the fingers are brought gently into contact with the stops. The pusher fingers 20 are mounted on a shaft 11 'connected in the ordinary manner to a slotted link 29 actuated by a pivoted lever 30 which is rocked by one of the members actuating the carriage 15 so as to bring the fingers 20 into vertical position. The spring toggle consists of an arm 23 projecting from the shaft 11 and pivoted at 24 to a rod 21 passing through a fixed lug 22, a spring 25 encircling the rod 21 and acting between the lug 22 and a shoulder on rod 21. A cross-rod 2 acting as a stop to the fingers 20 in their horizontal position carries a rigid bracket 1 to which is pivoted at 5 a fork 6 connected at 7 by a link 8 to a pin 9 on a crank 10 on the pusher-finger shaft 11. The carriage 15 carries a cross-shaft 14 oscillated by an arm 17 and roller 18 between two terminal positions determined by a double stop 16, and the shaft 14 has an arm 13 provided with a terminal roller 12 adapted to engage with and actuate the pivoted fork 6. At the end of the outward travel of the, carriage to the left the shaft 14 is rocked by contact of the roller 18 with a cam 19 so as to swing the arm 13 downwardly and place the roller 12 in alignment with the fork 6. During the inward travel of the carriage and directly after the sheet has been swept off the carriage the roller 12 will then enter the fork 6 and swing it in a clockwise direction about its pivot 5, thus controlling the swing- ing of the pusher fingers 20 into their horizontal position against the stop-rod 2. In its extreme position the fork 6 rests against an inclined stop 32. During the completion of the inward travel of the carriage and the commencement of its outward travel the arm 17 is lifted by a rail 28 extending between rollers 26, 27, by which means the arm 13 is rocked upwardly and the roller 12 maintained in a position to xe-engage the fork 6. As the roller 12 continues its movement to the left it swings the fork 6 in an anti-clockwise direction and controls the movement of the pusher fingers 20 into their vertical position.
