Abstract
196,390. Anglo-American Inventions Syndicate, Ltd., (Harris Automatic Press Co.). Jan. 25, 1922. Delivery apparatus.-In a sheet - deliverv device for printing - machines having mechanism, normally held inoperative, for lowering the receiving table, the action of the table-lowering mechanism is inaugurated by a detector which is normally stationary and held out of contact with the pile but is adapted to be actuated thereby when the accumulated pile reaches a predetermined height. The sheets are. delivered by grippers 18 carried by the chain delivery 17 passing round sprockets 14, 15, 16 on to the pile 20 on the delivery table 19, the latter being supported by chains 22 passing round sprocket wheels 23, 24 secured to a shaft 25 operatively connected by worm gear 28, 29 to a large gear 30 on the shaft 31. A ratchet wheel 41 is keyed to the shaft 31 and is adapted to be rotated in a clockwise direction for lowering the pile table by a pawl 40 carried by one arm 38 of a two-armed lever which is continuously oscillated by means of a crank pin 34 and connecting-rod 35 connected to the other arm 36, of the two-armed lever. The pawl 40 is held normally out of engagement with the ratchet wheel by an arm 44 carried by a sleeve 42 loose on the shaft 31 and formed with a shoulder 46 engaging under the tip 47 of the pawl. A spring 48 extends between a pin 49 on the pawl and a pin 50 on the loose sleeve 42 carrying the latch arm 44 so that the latter normally oscillates with the pawl and holds it out of engagement with the ratchet wheel. Another arm 51 projecting from the sleeve 42 is connected by a rod 52, bellcrank 53 and rod 55 to one arm 56 of a two-armed lever pivoted at 57, the other arm 60 of the lever being thereby continuously oscillated immediately above a stop finger 68 carried by the pivot shaft 62 of the detector 70. When the pile 20 accumulates sufficiently to raise the detector, the stop finger 68 is lifted into the path of the arm 60 so as to arrest the oscillation of the latch arm 44. On the next swing of the pawl 40 to the left it is released from the shoulder 46 of the then stationary latch arm 44, as shown in Fig. 7, and engages with the ratchet wheel 41, which is then driven by the next swing of the pawl to the right to lower the pile some distance below the detector. The pawl is reset by means of a lug 72 on the pawl coacting with a bevelled finger 81 on a pivoted spring-pressed block 79 carried by a plate 74 adjustably secured by a rod 75 to the machine frame. Towards the end of the operative stroke of the pawl the lug 72 contacts with the finger 81, tilts the block 79 against the pressure of its spring 83, and at the end of the stroke becomes positioned below the finger 81. On the return stroke the lug 72 contacts with the bevelled side of the finger 81, which is then held rigid by a stop pin 82 and is compelled to ride up thereon, as shown in Fig. 9. The pawl tip 47 is thus lifted up away from the ratchet wheel 41 level with the shoulder 46 of the latch arm 44, and is then forced to seat thereon by the action of a spring 85 extending between pins 86, 87 on the extremities of the arms 36, 51. Specification 170,671 is referred to.
