Cauldrons; surface treatment with liquid materials.-Relates to tar boilers having a tar pump a<4> which normally draws tar through inlet valves d<3> for delivery to the sprayer through pipes e, but which is adapted to scavenge the tar passages by drawing hot air from the furnace flues B<4> through a pipe k and valve k<2>. According to the invention, the hot-air valve k<2> and the tar valves. d<3> are interconnected, as by linkage d<5>, d<4>, so as to be simultaneously operated. The arrangement is such that, when a handle: l is operated to close the valves d<3>, the valve k<2> is opened and vice versa. In the form shown, a double-acting tar pump is mounted within the tar space and is worked by a hand-lever a<5>.
