Abstract
208,653. Tamamura, Y. Jan. 15, 1923. Single-rail and suspended vehicles.-A singlerail suspended vehicle for carrying a rope grip is shown in Figs. 6 and 7 which illustrate a doublorope system in which 1 is the haulage rope and 2 the carrying rope. At the unloading point wheels on the shaft 29 engage side rails and raise this shaft in its slotted bearing relatively to the carriage 24. This action raises the members 20, 21 and so rotates the grip as a whole about the haulage rope 1 which gives the necessary movement for release of the jaws. The: same lifting action eventually results in the raising of the members 25, 26 thus relieving the carrying rope entirely of the weight of the load. On leaving the unloading point, the side rails as well as a rail 3 forming a part in the run of the carrying rope, are bent downwards so that the whole weight of the apparatus first falls upon the haulage rope with the consequential closing of the jaws, after which the re-positioning of all the sliding members 26, 29 causes the weight to be shared between the two ropes. Figs. 8 and 9 show the application to a single rope system, the carriage 20 in this case being mounted directly on the pin 12. On arriving at a station the wheels 28 run on to a rail 4 and raise the member 14 relatively to the rope 1, thus opening the jaws. On leaving the station, rollers 22 engage a bent-rail 3 and rotate the carriage 20 and the gripping-jaws relatively to the member 14 until carriage and jaws are parallel to the rope 1. This action also depresses the pivot 11 and opens the jaw widely for engagement with the rope. As the journey continues, the weight of the receptacle is transferred gradually from the converging rail 4 to the rope and the increasing upward re-action of the rope during the transfer process causes the jaws to close. To prevent swinging of the load, the carriage 20 has a spring connection 30 - - 33 which allows it to be bent out of line with the hauling rope, but which automatically repositions it parallel to the hauling rope when the restraining force is removed. Specification 1565/07, [Class 104, Railways &c.], is referred to.
