Abstract

In a w.c. cistern the overflow water is passed by means of a pipe or a duct 12 into the lower end 14 of the flush pipe and is discharged therethrough into the toilet pan. The overflow pipe or duct may be part of an integral siphon-discharge unit. <IMAGE>

Description

SPECIFICATION Improvements in or relating to water closet cisterns This invention relates to water closet cisterns.
In water closet cisterns of known types, the overflow is taken by an overflow pipe which passes through a wall of the building and discharges exteriorly thereof.
The principal object of the present invention is to provide an overflow system which avoids the necessity of passing a pipe through a wall of the building.
According to the invention, there is provided a water closet cistern wherein overflow water is passed by means of a pipe or duct into the lower end of the flush-pipe and is discharged therethrough into the toilet pan.
According to a preferred embodiment, the overflow pipe or duct is formed as an integral unit with the flush pipe although it may consist of a separate pipe or duct connected into the lower end of the flush pipe.
The invention also includes a combined overflow and flushing unit for use in a water closet cistern, said unit comprising a flush pipe and an overflow or duct communicating with the lower end of the flush pipe.
The overflow pipe or duct will have the same capacity as the conventional overflow and its overflow inlet will be located at the standard height above the floor of the cistern, i.e.
approximately 8- in.
One embodiment of the invention will now be described by way of example with reference to the accompanying drawing which shows diagrammatically the relevant parts of the cistern.
In the drawing, 10 is the normal flushing valve and 11 the normal flush pipe which is connected to an aperture in the floor of the cistern. In accordance with the invention, there is provided an overflow duct 12 which is formed as an integral unit with the flush pipe, for example as a moulding in a plastics material.
The overflow opening 13 of the duct 12 is located the usual distance above the floor of the cistern and at its lower end the duct communicates with an opening 14 in the lower end of the flush pipe 11.
It will thus be seen that overflow water passing down the duct 1 2 enters the flush pipe 11 at the lower end thereof and is thence discharged into the toilet pan.
1. A water closet cistern wherein the overflow water is passed by means of a pipe or duct into the lower end of the flush pipe and is discharged therethrough into the toilet pan.
2. A water closet cistern according to claim 1, wherein the overflow pipe or duct is formed as an integral unit with the flush pipe.
3. A water closet cistern according to claim 1, wherein the overflow pipe or duct consists of a separate pipe or duct connected into the lower end of the flush pipe.
4. A combined overflow and flushing unit for use in a water closet cistern, said unit comprising a flush pipe and an overflow nioe or duct communicating with the lower end of the flush pipe.
5. A water closet cistern and a combined overflow and flushing unit for use therein, substantially as hereinbefore described with reference to the accompanying drawings.
