Description
SPECIFICATION
Elevating Swivel Table
This invention relates to a novel dining table
includes a swivel plate mounted on an elevating
device which can be moved substantially through å central opening of a top plate thereof, a number
of replaceable tray-like devices placed respectively
within cavities provided in the top plate, and cover devices for covering the cavities to conceal the
dregs of food left in the tray-like devices.
Most conventional dining tables have a flat top
plate for receiving different kinds of articles
thereon. However, an outstanding disadvantage of
those conventional tables is that it is very
inconvenient for food taking, and conversation
between the people sitting around the table when
there are beverage bottles scatters on the top
plate. Furthermore, the beverage bottles tend to
tumble over to create a scene of mess and
embarrassment. Although some tables are
provided with a swivel plate on its top plate for
receiving dishes so that people may take their
favorite food easily by turning the swivel plate, it
still can not overcome the above-described disadvantage of the conventional dining tables.
Additionally, collecting and cleaning of the cigarette ash and leftover are troublesome when the conventional tables are in use.
In accordance with the present invention a
novel dining table comprises a supporting bracket having a main shaft with a threaded cylindrical recess therein, a top plate mounted on the bracket
having a circular opening on its central portion and
a number of cavities on the peripheral portion
thereof, a number of tray-like devices usually
placed within the recesses and covered by a cover
device which is preferably mounted on the upper
edge of the recess, a threaded bolt for screwing
with the threaded cylindrical recess of the main
shaft having a larger flat top end, and a circular
swivel device for receiving beverage bottles
supported on a means which may be moved
upwards and downwards through the opening of
the table top by turning the threaded bolt into or
out of the threaded recess of the shaft.
The swivel device thereof can be turned by the
user like the known swivel plate. The receiving
means may be elevated above the table top so
that one may easily put a beverage bottle therein and take it therefrom.
Accordingly, it is an important object of the
present invention to provide a novel table having
devices for collecting and storing cigarette ash
and leftover food.
It is another important object of the present
invention to provide a novel dining table
comprising an elevating device which can be
moved above or below the table top to receive
beverage bottles so as to avoid obstruction of the
view lines between the people when they are
engaged in conversation.
These and other objects, features and
advantages will become subsequently apparent reside in the details of construction and operation as more fully hereinafter described and claimed, reference being made to the accompanying drawings forming a part thereof.
Fig. 1 is an exploded perspective view of a novel table in accordance with the present invention; and
Fig. 2 is an enlarged partial exploded perspective view of a tray-like device with a cover.
Referring to Fig. 1 there is shown a novel dining table of the present invention in which a round, flat top plate 1 is provided with a number of cavities (not shown) each covered by a cover device 24, and a circular opening 40 on the central portion thereof. The cavities are preferably disposed on the edge portion of the top plate 1 in spaced relation. A supporting bracket 3 includes four symmetrical legs 31 standing on the ground, a shaft 22 positioned on the legs 31 having a threaded longitudinal recess 21 therein for engaging with a threaded bolt 1 9 with a larger flat top 18, and two arms 20 mounted on the shaft 22 for supporting the top plate 1.Mounted on the flat top 1 8 of the bolt 1 9 is a receiving device 1 6 consisting of a lower round plate 1 7 having an upward flange 171 on its upper peripheral edge, three vertical stems 1 5 positioned on the lower round plate 1 7 and each stem being located at a corner of an imaging equilateral triangle, and an upper round plate 14 supported by the stems 1 5.
The diameter of the round plates 1 7 and 14 is preferrably equal to or slightly smaller than that of the opening 40. Accordingly, by turning the bolt 1 9 into or out of the recess 21 of the shaft, the receiving device 16 may move above or below the top plate 1 for a desired distance.
An annular bearing device 13 is fixed on the central portion of the upper round plate 14 and attached to a swivel plate 10. The bottom of the swivel plate 10 is provided with a metal pad 11 for contacting directly with steel balls received within the bearing device 13, and a short stem 12 provided at the centre thereof for inserting into the central opening of the annular bearing device 13 so that one may turn clockwise or counterclockwise the swivel plate 10.
Usually, a replaceable tray-like device 9 (as shown in Fig. 2) is placed into the cavity of the top plate 1 for containing the dregs of food or cigarette ash. The covers 24 are kept at the same level as the upper surface of the top plate 1 when they cover the cavities. As desired, the receiving device 1 6 can be adjusted above and below the top plate 1 for a certain length which is about one thirds of height of the common wine bottle so that a bottle can be readily put therein or taken therefrom.
While there has been described what is at present considered to be the preferred embodiment of the invention, it will be understood that various modifications may be made therein, and it is intended to cover in the appended claims all such modifications as of falling within the true spirit and scope of the invention.
