Description

SPECIFICATION Adjustment device for adjusting the longitudinal position of a seat and the inclination of the seat back portion The present invention relates to an adjustment device for adjusting the longitudinal position of a seat, in particular for vehicles, relative to longitudinal sliding guides, and for adjusting the inclination of a seat back portion relative to the seating portion of the seat.
Devices of this kind, arranged to carry out the said two adjustments, are known in many solutions, both manual and powered, but ghey are completely separate from one another.
It is an object of the present invention to provide a device which allows carrying out in a motorized way the said two adjustments and has the characteristic of unicity of the parts of the device which carry out the two types of adjustment, thus obtaining resultant advantages, such as a structural simplification, higher easiness and rapidity of mounting onto the seat, as well as an adaptibility in a simple way to different types of seats.
Other objects and advantages of the device of the present invention will become apparent from the following detailed description.
According to the present invention there is provided an adjustment device for adjusting the position of a set with respect to a longitudinal sliding guide and the inclination of the seat back portion with respect to the seating portion of the seat, characterized in comprising a common support structure for motored adjustment means which adjust the said longitudinal position of the seat and for motored adjustment means which adjust the said inclination of the said seat back portion.
For a better understanding of the present invention an embodiment thereof will now be described in detail, by way of non limiting example, with reference to the accompanying drawings, in which: Figure 1 is a partially sectional top view showing the device according to the present invention in its application to a seat shown partially; Figure 2 is a partial and partially sectional side view of seat the device according to the present invention applied thereto; Figure 3 is a sectional view along the line Ill-Ill of Figure 1; and Figure 4 is an enlarged sectional view of a portion of the device shown in Figure 3.
Referring now to Figures from 1 to 4, the device according to the present invention is fixed (in a way which will be described in detail later) to a frame 10 of a seating portion 11 of a seat and allows the adjustment of the position of the said frame, and hence of the entire seat, relative to longitudinal sliding guides 12 disposed at both sides of the seat and fixed to supports 13 fixed to the floor of a vehicle, as well as the adjustment of the inclination of a seat back portion 14 relative to the seating portion 11.
The device includes a support structure 16 which is made in one piece, conveniently of aluminium by pressure die-casting, and which substantially comprises a first portion 17 and a second portion 18 parallel to one another, spaced from one another and extending along the longitudinal sliding direction of the seat, the said second portion having a length larger than that of the second portion.
The said two portions 17 and 18 are connected to one another by means of an intermediate portion 19, triangular in shape, which defines on the sides vertical ribs 20 whose height is equal to that of the portions 17 and 18 and centrally an opening 22 intended to lighten the structure 16, and by means of a portion 23 whose height is smaller than that of the portions 17 and 18 and which is disposed in a position laterally adjoining the intermediate portion 19.
The support structure 16 has a width such as to occupy substantially a half of the width of the frame to which it is fixed at its lower portion by means of: a section 25 extending along the longitudinal direction of the frame 10, fixed with its ends to the front side and the rear side of the frame 10 by means of bolts 26, and connected to the front and rear regions of the portion 18 of the structure 16 by means of bolts 27; a section 28 extending along the longitudinal direction of the frame 10, in an outer position with respect to the section 25n fished at one of its ends to the rear side of the frame 10 by means of bolts 29, and connected at its other end to the portion 17 of the structure 16 by means of a bolt 30, and a section 32 extending along the transversal direction of the frame 10, adjacent the front side of the frame 10, fixed at one of its ends to the front region of a side section 33 for the longitudinal sliding of the seat on the respective guide 12n by means of a bolt 35, and towards the other end to the portion 23 of the structure 16 by means of two bolts 36.
Section 33 (as well as the other not shown, disposed on the other side of the seat) is fixed, at its front end, by means of the bolt 35, to a shaped plate 38 fixed to the frame 10, and at its rear end to the frame 10 by means ski a bolt 39.
Formed in the portion 18 of the structure 16 is a longitudinal opening 41, in the interior of which, except a terminal region 42, there are located also two lateral tabs 43. Disposed longitudinally in the said opening 41 is a screw 44 which is supported at its ends by the portion 18.
Coupled to said screw 44 is a nut formed in the body 45 which is disposed within the longitudinal opening 42 in which it may slide.
The said body 45 has in fact two lateral cavities 47 in which the respective side tabs 43 are coupled. The length of the said body 45 is smaller than the length if the region 42 in which no tabs 43 are present, so that it is possible to insert in the said region the body 45 into the opening 41 and than insert it onto the tabs 43. Disposed at the two ends of the screw 44 are two axial thrust bearings 47. Thus, body 45 is provided with a lower head 48 (Figure 3) in which a vertical threaded hole 50 is formed into which a bolt 51 is inserted which fixes the body 45 to a section 52 extending along a transversal direction of the frame 10, and is fixed at its ends towards the front region of the supports 13 by means of bolts 53.
Formed in the portion 17 of the structure 16, in a way similar to that described already in relation to the portion 18, is a longitudinal opening 55, in the interior of which, except a terminal region 56, two side tabs 57 are disposed.
Disposed longitudinally in the opening 55 is a screw 58 which is supported at its two ends by the portion 17. Coupled to said screw 58 is a nut formed in a body 60 disposed in the longitudinal opening 55 within which it may slide. In fact, the said body 60 has two side cavities 61 in which the respective side tabs 57 are coupled to one another. The length of the said body 60 is smaller than that of the region 56 having no tabs 57 disposed therein, so that it is possible to insert the body 60 in the said region into the opening 55 and than insert it onto the tabs 57.
At the two ends of the screw 58 there are disposed two axial thrust bearings 63. Thus, body 60 has an upper head 64 in which a horizontal threaded hole 65 is formed into which a bolt 66 is inserted which fixes to the body 60 a vertical side wall 67 of a skid 68 which is slidable on the section 33. In particular, formed in the said wall 67 is a slot 70 into which there is inserted the bolt 66, for an adjustment of the relative fixing position between the skid 68 and the body 60.
The skid 68 is made substantially in the shape of an inverted U, and onto its inner surface there is applied a coating 72 made of plastics, having the same shape, which has on the side surfaces a plurality of projections 72 which are turned towards the outside and are inserted into corresponding holes formed in the sidewalls of the skid 68.
The said skid 68 originates from its inner wall, towards the front region, the wall 67 bent upwards, and from the outer wall, towards to rear region, a wall 75 bent externally according to a square-shaped section and welded with its extreme edge to the upper side of the skid 68.
Connected to the outer side of the wall 75 by means of a nail 76 with a stop pin 77 is an end of a rod 78 whose other end is pivoted, by means of a pivot 80, to an end of a lever 81 which is pivoted centrally on the pivot 82 disposed on a plate 83 fixed by means of blots 84 towards the rear region of a side of the frame 10, whilst at the other end the said lever 81 is fixed to the seat back portion 14.
Screws 44 and 58 have a front end portion 90 and 91 respectively, square in shape, which projects in the front region from the support structure 16 and is coupled for rotation to an end portion 92 and 93, respectively, of respective motors 94 and 95.
The said motors 94 and 95 may conveniently be electric direct current motors of known type, provided with a friction clutch 96 and fixed by means of respective screws 97 and 98 to respective support plates 100 and 101. The said motors 94 and 95, with the respective support plates 100 and 101, are disposed behind one another and in a slightly offset reciprocal position. In particular, the support plate 101 for the motor 95 is fixed by means of two bolts 102 to two projections 103 which originate at the upper and the lower portion from the front region of the portion 17 of the support structure 16, whilst the support plate 100 for the motor 94 is fixed by two bolts 105 to two projections 106 which originate at the upper and the lower portion from the front region of the portion 18 of the support structure 16.
The assembly of the motors 94 and 95 is closed by a front cover 108.
The operation of the device described hereinabove is as follows.
The actuation of the electric motor 94, by means of electric control switches of known type gives rise to a rotation of the screw 44. Since the nut screw formed in the body 45 is fixed relative to the floor, for the fixing of the body 45 to the section 52 which in turn is fixed to the supports 1 3n there takes place a longitudinal displacement of the screw 44 and, consequently, the whole support structure 16, with all the elements connected thereto, such as the motors 94 and 95, the screw 58, the skid 88, the section 33 and the whole frame 10. Thus, an adjustment of the position of the whole seat with respect to the fixed longitudinal sliding guides 12 is obtained.
The actuation of the electric motor 95, still by means of electric control switches of known type, gives instead rise to a rotation of the screw 58. Thus, a longitudinal displacement if the nut screw formed in the body 60 and consequently, through the connection formed by means of the bolt 66, a longitudinal displacement of the skid 68 on the section 33 are obtained. Accordingly, a longitudinal displacement of the rod 78 is obtained, wich displacemnt results in a rotation of the lever 81 about the pivot 82. Thus, an adjustment of the inclination of the seat back portion 14 relative to the seating portion 11 of the seat is obtained.
Thus, with the device according to the invention described hereinabove there is obtained the characteristic of having the supporto structur 16 common both the motor 94 and the assembly of elements (screw 44n body 45 etc.) which allow carrying out the adjustment of the position of the seat relative to the longitudinal sliding guides 12, and for the motor 95 and the assembly of elements (screw 58, body 60, skid 68 etc.) which allow carrying out the adjustment of the inclination of the seat back portion 14 relative ti the seating portion 11.
This provides various advantages in the construction of the a device for carrying out the said two types of adjustment, such as a simplification of the construction, an easier and more rapid assembly on the seat, a higher degree of adaptability to seats of different types, inasmuch as the support structure 16 with the elements connected thereto may be of a single type and only the support sections 25, 28 and 32 may vary in their dimensions.
Such advantages are even more evident as regards the construction of the support structure 16 in a single piece, with consequent characteristics of lightness.
The friction clutches 96 applied to the motors 94 and 95 allow to avoid breaking stresses to the device when reaching the end of travel of the screws 44 and 58 and the user stili maintains activated the respective electric motor.
Finally, it is clearthat modifications and variations may be made to the described embodiment of the device according to the present invention, without departing from the scope of the invention itslef. For example, the control of the adjustment of the inclination of the seat back portion 14 may be applied to two levers 81 disposed at the two sides of the seat, and such adjustment control may be obtained between the body 60 and the rod 78 or the lever 81, by means of simple rods or levers, without requiring the use of a skid 68.
