Abstract

Condensers.-In a variable condenser comprising two sets of fixed and movable vanes, giving a coarse and fine adjustment respectively, independent means are provided for operating the movable vane or vanes of each set. In the form shown in Fig. 1, the movable vanes 11 for the coarse adjustment are mounted on a hollow rod 12 provided with an operating head 15, while a single vane 11<a>, serving for the fine adjustment, is mounted on the lower end of a rod 17 which passes through the rod 12 and is provided at its upper end with an operating head 18. Screw stops 20, 21 may be provided for limiting the movement of the movable vanes. The lower end of the rod 17 projects through the base-plate 7 of the condenser and is connected through a spring 25 to a conducting pin 23 connected to a terminal 22. In a modification. Fig. 5, the fixed and movable vanes for the fine adjustment are mounted beneath the base-plate 7, and the movable vane 11<a> is normally held in its middle position by the engagement of a spring 29 with a slotted cap 28 at the end of the rod 17. The fine adjustment vanes may be placed above the coarse adjustment vanes, the movable vanes of the latter being in this case mounted on the central rod.
