Description
SPECIFICATION
Improvements in moulds for the production of con
crete pillars or posts
This invention relates to improvements in moulds
forthe production of concrete pillars or posts.
Moulds for producing concrete pillars or posts are
heavy and provide unsatisfactory results and the object of the present invention is to provide a light weight mould and one which will produce more accurate pillars or posts.
According to the invention a mould for the production of a concrete pillar or post comprises a mould for the production of a concrete pillar or post comprising a base with sides and ends hinged thereto along the whole length, pegs on the ends of the mould and pins to pass through holes in the pegs to lock the mould in the closed position, the sides of the mould being recessed with reinforcing members extending from the recess to adjacent the upper edge of the side members.
The invention will be described with reference to the accompanying drawings:- Fig. lisa perspective view of the mould in the closed position.
Fig. 2 is a similar view with the mould in the open position.
Fig. 3 is a plan view of one end of the mould.
Fig. 4 is a part side elevation with the end in the closed position.
Fig. 5 is a part side elevation with the end partly open.
Fig. 6 is a section on line 6-6 Fig. 5.
Fig. 7 is a plan view of a pillar or post after moulding with the mould in the open position.
The mould is constructed with a base 1 and sides 2 connected by a hinge 3 to the base 1 continuously along the whole length to prevent any concrete during pouring from oozing out between the side and the base. The ends 4 are connected to the base as by hinges 5 shown particularly in Fig. 3 again with a continuous or piano hinge.
The sides 2 are formed with a recess 6 on each side to house the ends of fencing when in use, and a reinforced angle members 7. Each side 2 has a peg 8 welded thereto and projecting from each end. The ends 4 are formed with holes 9 to receive the pegs 8 when the mould is in the closed position and is locked to the sides by pins 10 passing through holes 11 in the pegs 8. The ends 3 may be formed with a recess 12 to provide decoration in the of the pillar or
post.
The moulding operation is carried out by pouring concrete a liquid state to fill the mould with sides and ends in the closed position the upper surface of the concrete in the mould being levelled off. After
allowing the concrete to set the sides and ends are opened as shown in Fig. 7 and the pillar or post A
can be lifted off the base 2. The sides 13 of the recess
are chamfered to allow pivoting the sides 2 to the
open position after the concrete has set.
In a modification of the mould for the corner pillar
or post the ends are formed with recesses to receive fencing panels and one side is formed plain so that the fencing panels are inserted into the recesses in the pillar or post at 90 .
If the end dome formed by the recess 12 gets damaged the pillar or post can be reversed.
1. Amouldforthe production of a concrete pillar or post comprising a base with sides and ends hinged thereto along the whole length, pegs on the ends of the sides to pass through holes in the ends of the mould and pins to pass through holes in the pegs to lock the mould in the closed position, the sides of the mould being recesses with reinforcing members extending from the recess adjacent the upper edge of the side members.
2. A mould as in claim 1 in which the reinforcing members are of substantially L shape and extend the length of the sides.
3. A mould as in claims 1 or 2 in which the ends are formed with a recess for decoration purposes.
4. A mould for the production of concrete pillars or posts substantially as described with reference to the accompanying drawings.
5. A concrete pillar or post when prod uced sub- stantially with reference to the accompanying drawings.
