Abstract

A method of manufacturing anatomically shaped short knickers by knitting a folded web of knitwear in which the opposing sides of the web 1a, 1b are connected to one another transversely to the direction of production of the web at spaced intervals as at 7 along the web to form longitudinal sections (a), and the courses of threads extending transversely to the direction of production of the web are interrupted repeatedly in one of the sides at a fixed distance from the fold 2 in the web to form two slit-like leg openings 3 in each section. Each section, when severed from the web, forms a pair of knickers in which the side having the leg openings forms the abdomen side. <IMAGE>

Description

SPECIFICATION Anatomically shaped short knickers The invention relates to anatomically shaped short knickers.
Short knickers are known per se. The short knick ers hitherto on the market consist of a plurality of parts, a front portion, a rear portion and a gusset portion. These three parts must be produced in accordance with a pattern according to the various sizes. It is a disadvantage that residual pieces are left over which cannot be further processed.
In addition, it is a disadvantage that these three parts have to be sewn together which takes time and is expensive. The seams do not always have the 'required strength so that the seams easily tear apart.
There are also short knickers which are produced from two independently manufactured webs of knitwear of equal width, wherein at certain distances apart, transversely to the longitudinal direction of the webs of knitwear, a connection is formed between them by knitting together. A knitting together of the two webs of knitwear is likewise provided at the edge in the gusset region which separates the two leg openings from one another.
The two known kinds of short knickers are imperfectly adapted to the different dimensions of the parts of the body-abdomen sidelbackside- when worn since the leg openings are situated precisely at one marginal side of each half of the mater ial.
The object of the present invention is to produce anatomically shaped short knickers in a simple manner.
In order to solve this problem, it is proposed, according to the invention, that in a double web of knitwear, the halves of the web of knitwear should be connected to one another at fixed distances apart, transversely to the direction of production and in the direction of production the course of the threads extending transversely should be interrupted repeatedly to form slit-like openings at a fixed distance from the fold in the half of the web of knitwear forming the abdomen side.
As a result of the fact that a double web of knitwear, produced continuously, is used for the production of the short knickers according to the invention, the course of the threads of which is interrupted at a fixed distance from the fold in the abdomen side seen in the direction of production, leg openings are formed which are situated at the abdomen side so that the necessary greater area of fabric is necessar ily present for the back side. Thus a precise anatomi cal adaptation is possible with simple manufacture of the short knickers, which results, in particular, from an appropriate connection of the halves of the web of knitwear transversely to the direction of pro duction and from a special course of the threads in the leg openings.
The invention is described in more detail below with reference to an example of embodiment illus trated in the figures of the drawing.
Figure 1 shows, illustrated in perspective, a sec tion of a production web of the short knickers accord ing to the invention, Figure 2 shows the short knickers according to the invention in a front view, Figure 3 shows the course of the threads, particu- larly in the region of a leg opening.
As can be seen from Figure 1, a double web of knitwear 1 is produced for the manufacture of the short knickers according to the invention The halves 1 a and 1 b of the web of knitwear are connected to one another at fixed distances a apart, transversely to the direction of production F. The leg openings are formed as a result of the fact that the course of the threads extending transversely is interrupted repeatedly to form the slit-like openings (leg openings) 3 at a fixed distance b from the fold 2 in the half 1a of the web of knitwear forming the abdomen side.
The course of the threads in the half 1a of the web of knitwear at the abdomen side can be seen from Figure 3. In order to form the slit-like openings 3 (leg openings), the threads 4 forming stitch bars occurring in the direction of production F are connected to one another by the weft threads 5 only up to the edges 6a, 6b at the beginning of the slit-like openings 3. This course of the threads ceases at the end of the siit and the continuation is normal. The same course of the threads occurs at the next leg opening 3.
The individual pairs of short knickers, as illustrated in Figure 2, are obtained from the sections of the web of knitwear in that the connections 7 extending transversely to the direction of production are severed.
1. Anatomically shaped short knickers, characterised in that in a double web of knitwear (1), the halves (1a, 1 b) of the web of knitwear are connected to one another at fixed distances (a) apart, transversely to the direction of production (F), and in the direction of production the course of the threads extending transversely is interrupted repeatedly to form slit-like openings (3) at a fixed distance (b) from the fold (2) in the half (1a) of the web of knitwear forming the abdomen side.
2. A method of manufacturing anatomically shaped short knickers, comprising knitting a folded web of knitwear in which the opposing sides of the web are connected to one another transversely to the direction of production of the web at spaced intervals along the web to form longitudinal sections, and the courses of th reads extending transversely to the direction of production of the web are interrupted repeatedly in one of the sides at a fixed distance from the fold in the web to form two slit-like leg openings in each section, whereby each section is adapted to form a pair of knickers in which the side having, the leg openings forms the abdomen side.
3. Anatomically shaped short knickers manufactured according to the method of claim 2.
4. A method of manufacturing anatomically shaped short knickers substantially as hereinbefore described with reference to the accompanying draw ings.
