Counters actuated by revolving mechanism. - In a counter for use with meters &c. the numeral drums are actuated by a pawl-carrying frame 15 rocked from side to side of the vertical plane through its pivots 16, being moved in one direction by a spring 22 and in the other by a pin 27 mounted on a rotating wheel 23 driven by a worm 24 from the meter shaft. The pin 27 engages at each revolution a cam surface 20 extending from a bar 21 forming part of the frame 15 which pivotally carries the differential actuating pawls 13. At each revolution of the worm wheel the pin 27, by engagement with the cam 20, forces the frame 15 rearwardly to cause the pawl (or pawls) 13 to enter the next recess of the numeral drum whereupon, after the pin has passed, the spring 22 is able to return the frame and actuate the counter. The cam 20 is so shaped as to cause the pawl to engage the next recess at some distance from its front wall and then to allow it, under the action of the spring, to move gently into engagement with the wall before the actuating stroke commences. The frame may be moved positively in both directions if the spring becomes inoperative by the provision of an arm 30 extending from the cam 20 and having a surface 31 to co-operate with the pin 27. Overthrow is prevented by projections 28 at the lower end of the bar 21.
