Abstract

In a connecting rod for controlling a heald frame in weaving machines, one of a pair of opposed end plates (1, 2) carries a shaft (6) for connection to a heald frame. A seat (8) with peripheral groove (9) is formed in the free end of said shaft (6). The other plate (2) carries, in a position corresponding to that of said shaft (6), a projecting pin (10) with peripheral rib (11) dimensioned to be inserted into said seat (8). By moving the plates (1, 2) axially relatively to each other the rib (11) engages the groove (9). The plates are associated with members (3, 4) which have interengaging rack surfaces (3') and are held in position by a clamp.

Description

SPECIFICATION A connecting rod The present invention relates to a connecting rod and more particularly to a connecting rod suitable for controlling the heald frames in weaving machines.
According to this invention there is provided a connecting rod suitable for controlling a heald frame in a weaving machine, comprising a pair of opposed plates, one of said plates carrying a shaft for connection to said heald frame, a seat with an interior peripheral groove being formed the free end of said shaft, the other plate carrying in a position corresponding to that of said shaft, a projecting pin with a peripheral rib dimensioned to be freely inserted into said seat, the rib being engageable with said groove on subsequent longitudinal displacement of one of said plates, means being provided for releasably securing said plates in position.
Preferably said means for releasably securing said plates in position comprise members respectively mounted on the said plates, said members each defining in serrated or rock surface, the said serrated or rock surfaces being interengaged, at least one clamp holding said members together.
Conveniently wherein there are a plurality of relative positions of longitudinal displacement of said plates in which said rib is engaged with said groove.
In order that the invention may be more readily understood and so that further features thereof may be appreciated, the invention will now be described, by way of example with reference to the accompanying drawings, in which: FIGURE 1 is an exploded view, of the end of a connecting rod according to the invention, ready to be connected to a heald frame; FIGURE 2 shows the connecting rod of Figure 1 assembled, and in a first position of mutual engagement; FIGURE 3 is a side view of the assembled connecting rod in the position shown in Figure 2; and FIGURES 4 and 5 are views corresponding to Figures 2 and 3, but which show the connecting rod of Figure 1 and in a second position of mutual engagement.
With reference to the drawings (especially Figures 3 and 5), it can be seen that the connecting rod according to the invention comprises two parallel end plates 1 and 2, carried by two bars 3 and 4 designed to be located one above the other. The upper surface of the lower bar 3 is a separated rock 3' and the lower surface of the upper bar 4 is a corresponding serrated rock 4'. The bars 3 and 4 can thus be engaged in mutually variable positions. The bars may be securely fixed together by applying a clamp 5.
The plate 1 carries, fixed to its free end remote from the rod 3, a protruding shaft 6 for connection to a heald frame, for example, by passing through an aperture in the element 7 shown schematically in Figure 1. As shown, said shaft 6 defines, in the free end thereof, a hollow inner seat 8 provided with a radially outwardly extending peripheral groove 9.
The plate 2 in turn carries, fixed to its free end remote from the rod 4, and in a corresponding position to that of the shaft 6, a pin 10 provided with a radially outwardly directed rib 11 having a shape complementary to that of the groove 9.
When wishing to assemble the connecting rod, the plates 1 and 2 are placed side by side and the bars 3 and 4 are located as shown in Figures 2 to 5, the various parts being mutually connected by applying the clamp 5. During assembly, the pin 10 is freely inserted into the seat 8, the mouth of which is wide enough for the purpose, and it is then located with its own rib 11 in the groove 9 of the seat 8, either on the outer side (Figures 2 and 3) or on the inner side (Figures 4 and 5), according to the position chosen for the engagement between the serrating of the rack 3' and those of the rack 4' of the bars 3 and 4 respectively.
By this arrangement, the connecting rod can be very quickly assembled, and disassembly is very easily obtained by freeing the engagement provided between the racks of the bars by releasing the clamp 5 and then appropriately manipulating the remaining two components. The construction of the connecting rod is simple and cheap, as is required for this type of component.
1. A connecting rod suitable for controlling a heald frame in a weaving machine, comprising a pair of opposed plates, one of said plates carrying a shaft for connection to said heald frame, a seat with an interior peripheral groove being formed at the free end of said shaft, the other plate carrying, in a position corresponding to that of said shaft, a projecting pin with a peripheral rib dimensional to be freely inserted into said seat, the rib being engageable with said groove on subsequent longitudinal displacement of one of said plates, means being provided for releasably securing said plates in position.
2. A connecting rod according to claim 1, wherein said means for releasably securing said plates in position comprise members respectively mounted on the said plates, said members each defining a serrated or rock surface, the said serrated or rock surfaces being inter-engaged, at !east one clamp holding said members together.
3. A connecting rod according to claim 1 or 2, wherein there are a plurality of relative positions of longitudinal displacement of said plates in which
