Abstract
206,479. Charton, E. Nov. 6, 1922, [Convention date]. Cartridge-loading machines.-Relates to apparatus for crimping sporting cartridges, of the kind in which a longitudinal approach between the cartridge and the crimping member is performed by means of a screw shaft adapted to be rotated when the crimping member is operated. According to the invention, a pinion m is slidably fitted on the crank shaft of the crimping member k and is guided by a feather n on said shaft, so that the pinion m can be meshed or unmeshed, as desired, from a pinion i on a screw shaft f, which engages a nut g carrying the cartridge holder h. When the pinions are in mesh and the handle l is turned, the crimping member k is rotated and the cartridge is simultaneously moved towards it; the pinions may then be unmeshed, and the crimping member further rotated while the cartridge is stationary, in order to smooth the crimped end of the cartridge; finally, the pinions may again be put in mesh and the handle turned in the opposite direction to withdraw the cartridge from the crimping member.
