Abstract

206,037. Klein, A. B., and Hilger, Ltd., A. Dec. 5, 1922. Three-colour and like apparatus. - Chromoscopes comprise a plurality of sets of slides bearing portions of a design in transparency, means for illuminating the slides with selected colours, and a series of transparent reflectors for one set of slides adapted to direct images of the slides in superposition to a viewing point, and means for producing images of another set of slides and optically transferring them in superposition behind the transparent reflectors associated with the first set of slides so that images of all the slides are seen in superposition from the viewing point. A construction in which images of six slides in two sets of three are superposed is shown in the parallel vertical sections, Figs. 1 and 2, and in sectional plan, Fig. 3. Slides 11<a>, 11<b>, 11<c> are illuminated through filters by lamps as shown and images formed in horizontal reflectors 14<a>, 14<b>, 14<c> by light passing through the inclined transparent reflectors 13<a>, 13<b>, 13<c>, which reflect the images from the horizontal reflectors towards a viewing point 15 on the right; the viewing point may be a simple aperture or a second slot-like aperture may be provided for the other eyes. Of the other set of slides, 9<d>, 9<e> are arranged horizontally and images reflected laterally by transparent reflectors 13<d>, 13<e> to a pair if mirrors 20 at right-angles to each other and inclined as shown to transfer the images into superposition with the images of the other set; the other slide 9<f> may be arranged vertically as shown, being illuminated by light reflected from a mirror 17, an image of this slide being also transferred by the reflectors 20 into superposition with the rest. The distances of slides and mirrors are arranged to give an equal length of optical path for all the images seen. Transparent reflectors are made of thin celluloid supported in a flat condition by a rigid peripheral mount. A solution of celluloid is coated on a soluble base such as rock-salt and a mount affixed when the solution has dried. The film is left on the mount when the base has been dissolved.
