Abstract

A dishwasher 4 provided with a flat reservoir 1 positioned between wash chamber 3 and the outer casing, said reservoir containing water for delivery to a salt container to form a saline solution for the regeneration of an ion exchanger, is characterised in that a rotary valve 12 is provided at the base of the reservoir so that a predetermined amount of water may be delivered to the salt container, said valve being settable via the interior of the wash chamber. <IMAGE>

Description

SPECIFICATION Dishwasher with a device for measuring the quantity of water made available for the regeneration of an ion exchanger The invention concerns a dishwashing machine with a flat reservoir positioned in its upper part between the washing tub and the outer casing. The reservoir dispenses a predetermined quantity of the total amount of water held in the reservoir into a salt container for the regeneration of an ion exchanger, whereby the dispensed quantity may be preselected through a setting device which can be attained through the interior of the wash tub.
A dishwasher equipped in such a way is known through the German patent documents no. 2613 752. The mentioned reservoir is filled with fresh water through a water inlet valve which is controlled by the timer of the dishwasher. The presetting of the dispensed quantity of water is achieved through a cranked swivelling overflow waterpipe, the horizontal arm of which points sideways into the washing tub of the machine where it can be reached. According to the angle chosen, the inlet opening of the overflow pipe is lying at different heights in the container which on the other hand determines the selected water quantity.
The invention is based on the problem of simplifying a dishwasher incorporating a control device for the preselection of regeneration water and thus simplifying and reducing the cost of production.
In orderto overcome this problem it is suggested starting from a dishwasher-described in detail previously according to the invention -that the control device is attainable through an air vent in the washing tub side wall. This means that the proposition results in (instead of as previously two separate apertures in the washing tub, i.e. one for presetting of the quantity of water and one for the constant airing of the tub) only one single aperture being necessary which combines both these functions. In particular it is suggested to position the control device in the clearance diameter of the airvent.
The advantage not only consists in the fact that when manufacturing the tub, instead of two apertures only one has to be provided. However, also the components which previously had to be placed on the two separate openings can be combined. This effectively reduces assembly time and manufactu ring costs for these components.
In particular it is proposed that the reservoir, the control device and an air shaft which lead upward from the air vent are combined into one integral unit.
In view of the different systems available to fill the tub with fresh water it is furthermore useful if this integral unit also incorporates an airbreak. This can be as with the aforementioned known dishwasher simply an opening of the inlet into the tub. It could, however, also be a specially designed airbreak with opposed inlet and outlet jet streams, which is connected between the fresh water inlet and the ion exchanger. The leaking water of which passes through the air vent into the wash tub or is partly used to fill the reservoir.
Such an integral unit is particularly simple to produce if it consists essentially of two injection moulded parts fused together.
Hereinafter a construction sample of the invention is explained in detail with the help of a drawing: Fig 1 shows a section from above of the single aperture reservoir unit Fig 2 schematic drawing of a dishwasher showing the single aperture unit in a smaller scale as a side section.
The shown flat reservoir unit 1 is joined by a connecting nozzle 2 to the side of the washing tub 3 inside a dishwasher 4. That is to say it is situated between the tub side wall and that outer casing which is parallel to this side wall.
A multitude of separating walls which are vertical onto the flat sides of the reservoir unit act as a system of canals or shafts terminating at the base of the reservoir in three hose nipple connections 5, 6 and 7.
An air shaft 9 which is open at the top and is leading upwards is adjacent to the connection nozzle 2 which is covered by a grille 8. Through this the leak water from the airbreak 10 also enters the tub.
A water reservoir is designed as a channel (11).
The desired water quantity from this is selected by means of the rotating selector valve 12. This is positioned inside the inside diameter of the connecting nozzle 2 and therefore replaces part of the grille 8. This rotating valve can be reached through the inside of the tub in the direction indicated by the arrow 13 in Figure 2 and can be positioned with the use of a screwdriver.
A fresh water supply is connected to hose connector nipple 5 over a solenoid valve. The water enters the channel 11 via the airbreak 10 at the inlet 14 and leaves the channel through a main outlet 15 positioned in the upper right corner. The following channel leads via connecting nipple 6 to the ion exchanger of the dishwasher. That means that after opening of the solenoid valve firstly channel 11 is filled with water and the air contained therein is expelled through the ion exchanger. After that the water goes directly to the ion exchanger.
Regeneration of the ion exchanger takes place when the rinsing operations are finalised, in any case however, the aforementioned solenoid valve of the water supply is closed. For regenerating connector 7 is opened whereupon the water within channel 11 is allowed to run into a salt container which will dispense salt solution of an equal quantity into the ion exchanger. As the channel 11 is divided by two walls 16 and 17 into three chambers only the right hand chamber will empty with the rotating selector valve positioned as shown in Figure 1. The two other chambers remain filled up to the top ofthe wall 17.
By turning the selector valve to the left either the middle or additionally the lower left chamber can be discharged to connecting nipple 7 which thus increases selected discharge quantity of water The drawing(s) originally filed was/were informal and the print here reproduced is taken from a later filed formal copy.
