Abstract

Printing-surfaces ; printing-apparatus. - A stamp for reproducing designs by perforating is formed by drawing the design on a sheet of paper 3, securing the sheet to a sheet of asbestos or cardboard 1 laid on a glass or other hard base 2 and driving pins 6 through the design and through the asbestos until the points contact with the base. The upper ends of the pins are rigidly secured together, as by soldering or tinning at 7, a fence 8 is placed round the sheet 1 and solder, white metal or printer's metal is run into the mould so formed to form a solid backing 9 which may be provided with a handle or is adapted for use in a printing machine. The pins 6 may be inked by means of a cork pad. When employed for printing or stamping without perforating, the ends of the pins may be blunt, the lower ends being of the same diameter as the stems.
