Floors.-The metal base of a vehicle body, to which are attached girders, cross-beams, uprights &c. for the purpose of building up a complete structure, is formed from one or more plates a having longitudinal channels or corrugations b, Fig. 1, which are provided with strengthening means to prevent spreading. In the construction shown in Fig. 1 the channels b are strengthened by the attachment thereto of flanged and corrugated gird'ers d which serve to connect the base to the underframe. The girders d may, however, be dispensed with and the channels b be directly connected to the underframe, the channels in such cases being strengthened by additional corrugations g formed in the sides or bottom of the channel, or by the provision of small cross plates m, Fig. 5, or by means of long transverse members n of the construction shown in Fig. 7, arranged above and/or below the base. The weight of the base may be reduced by cutting out portions in the least stressed parts.
