Abstract
A method for preventing the production of defective doubled yarn by a spinning frame comprises feeding constituent rovings after convergence from drafting rollers (1) through a gap between a pair of opposite facing sets (9) of comb teeth and thence through a lappet guide (2) whereby in the event of breakage of one roving a resulting change in the direction of feed of the yarn towards the lappet guide (2) causes the yarn or a single roving to be impaled upon or trapped by the teeth of one or other of the sets. A device in association with a ring spinning frame for the performance of this method and comprised of components as above identified by numbers is also protected. <IMAGE>
Description
SPECIFICATION
Method and Device for Removal of Single Yarn in Double Rove Ring Spinning
This invention relates to the production of yarn by spinning together two separately supplied rovings by means of a ring spinning frame.
Because rovings are more loosely constituted than yarn it may happen that, for instance due to inadequate oil application or due to the effect of static electricity, one of two separately supplied rovings converging towards the ring spinning frame may migrate and wrap around guides and rollers or otherwise fail to be twisted into yarn.
The usual result is that the residual roving continues to feed as a faulty yarn onto the take-up spindle of the spinning frame.
By the time the fault, that is to say a singles yarn is detected by the operator, or by the time the residual yarn also breaks, a quite considerable length of unwanted singles yarn will usually have been produced.
It is the object of the present invention to provide for the breakage of the spinning yarn in the event of failure of one of two rovings to be twisted into the yarn.
The method and a device for the performance of the method relies on the sideways movement of the yarn as it moves from a balanced vertical path when both rovings are being spun into the yarn, to an angularly displaced path when only one roving is being spun.
Thus in accordance with the present invention a method for preventing the production of defective yarn in the event of breakage of a constituent roving comprises feeding the constituent rovings after convergence from drafting rollers through a gap defined between a pair of opposite facing sets of comb teeth and thence through a lappet guide, whereby in the event of breakage of one roving a resulting change in the direction of feed of the yarn towards the lappet guide causes the yarn or a roving to be impaled upon or trapped by the teeth of one or other of the sets.
A device in accordance with the invention thus comprises, in a ring spinning machine, two opposite facing sets of comb teeth disposed between the point of convergence of two rovings from front drafting rollers and a lappet guide which guides the yarn to the balloon ring of the spinning frame.
The invention is described in more detail hereafter by reference to the accompanying drawing in which Fig. 1 and Fig. 2 are somewhat schematic side elevations respectively of a ring spinning frame.
Figs. 1 and 2 show two front bottom drafting rollers 1 from which two rovings converge and pass in the direction indicated by the arrow towards a lappet guide 2 supported by a hinged bracket 3 through a balloon rail 4 and traveller 5 mounted on a rail 6 so as to be spun and wound onto a package 7 which is carried on a spindle.
Between the front drafting rollers 1 and the lappet guide 2 there are mounted on brackets 8 a pair of horizontally hinged sets of teeth 9. Each set is self sustaining in the position shown in Fig.
1 but can be turned downwardly about a horizontal hinge axis 10 to facilitate access to the yarn. As can be seen from Fig. 2, and for maximum efficiency, the sets of teeth 9 point in the general direction of the yarn as it approaches from the front drafting rollers 1. The sets of teeth can however be placed anywhere in the path of travel of the two rovings between the yarn's natural convergence point and the lappet guide 2.
Fig. 2 shows the normal two roving yarn path P as a full line passing vertically between the two sets of teeth 9. Fig. 2 also shows in dashed lines
P1, P2 the alternative angular paths which the yarn follows when only one roving is being spun.
This sideways movement of the yarn in the latter eventuality is ensured by feeding the rovings through the front drafting rollers 1 at a separation of approximately 12 mm. The gap between the two rovings is not critical although the efficiency of the device improves as the distance between the two rovings is increased.
It will be apparent that if as a result of spinning failure of one roving, the yarn follows either of the paths P 1 or P2 it will be impaled or trapped between the teeth of one or other of the sets of teeth 9.
