Creel arrangements; spindle-driving apparatus; stop-apparatus, non-automatic.-In a machine for twisting sets of threads or filaments, such as filaments of artificial silk, the threads are drawn without the intervention of delivery rollers from a carrier 25 mounted on a shaft 20, which is driven at an unvarying speed by worm-gearing 21 from a vertical spindle 14. The twist passes up to the carrier and tends to lick the threads therefrom. The twisting-spindle is driven from a tin roller 4 by a cord 3, and drives the spindle 14 by a cord 15 to which tension is imparted by mounting the lower end of the spindle 14 in a socket 12 carried by a weighted bell-crank lever 11. The upper end of the spindle 14 is carried in an oscillating bearing. The tension lever 6 of the cord 3 is provided with a surface 6<3>, which grips the cord against a surface 9<1> when the lever is operated by a catch rod 8 to slacken the cord. One of the Provisional Specifications describes an arrangement of banding whereby the twisting spindle and the spindle which drives the carrier shaft are driven by the same cord.
