Safety valves.-A valve device for relieving excess pressure or vacuum particularly applicable for use on oil storage tanks and in which the pressure relief valve 16 and the vacuum relief valve 30 seat at the ends respectively, of an inner casing 18 supported axially in an outer casing 52 by hollow radial webs 24 has the valve stems adapted to telescope one within the other. The supporting webs act as vent ports to an annular chamber 26 formed by a coned cover 46 screwed on to the casing. The lower end of the cover has a valve seat 40 adapted to be engaged by a corresponding valve face on the manually actuated valve 36 which has a screw threaded engagement at 42 with the main casing. The member 36 also carries a frame 64 fitted with gauze to protect the vent aperture, and with a, flange 68 to engage a flange 70 on the cover when the valvel is fully opened. Both the automatic valves have guide spiders engaging the seat apertures and have also upstanding guide tails the one on the valve 30 engaging a socket 74 on the cover and the one on the valve 16 engaging a socket 86 depending from the other valve 30. The valve 16 is loaded by a spring 22 adjusted by nuts 92, 94 engaging the outside of the socket 86 while the valve 30 is loaded by the spring 22 and a spring 34 acting in opposition to the spring 22 and adjusted by nuts 78, 82 on the socket 74. In a modification the springs are separately adjusted by screwed members, disposed within the inner casing. In a further modification the valves are weight loaded and the cap 46 is adapted to be moved axially to engage a fixed seat.
