Abstract
In a draw-string purse an external cord 5 encircling the external face of the purse and an internal cord 6 running parallel to the external cord on the internal face of the purse are retained by rings 7, 8, 9, 10 passed through passage holes through the purse wall, the passage holes being spaced around the open edge of the purse in such a way that each ring has one part located inside the purse and the other part located outside the purse, and that each ring has both the external and internal cords passing through it. <IMAGE>
Description
SPECIFICATION
Draw-string purse
The present invention relates to a flat bag of the draw-string purse type.
It is known that bags of the draw-string purse type are generally made up from a piece of leather, cloth or linen, folded double and closed at the bottom and at the sides, with an opening at the top for the introduction of objects. They may equally well be formed by two pocket halves, sewn together at the sides and at the bottom in such a way as to leave an opening at the upper edge.
Furthermore, these bags are equipped with cords which enable the upper edge of the purse to be closed and opened. Forthis purpose, the bag is generally equipped with holes or loops at regular intervals over the contour of the purse in the vicinity of the upper open edge, and parallel thereto. The cord or cords run through the said loops, or pass alternatively to the inside and to the outside of the bag via the said holes.
The work of producing the loops and also that of inserting the cords takes a relatively long time during the production of bags of this type. The present invention aims to remedy these disadvantages by providing a particularly simple system for inserting the cords, which is particularly easy to assemble.
The present invention relates to a falt bag of the draw-string purse type, comprising a body in the form of a pocket which is open at the upper edge, characterised by the fact that, in the vicinity of the said upper edge, it is equipped with a first cord, called the external cord, encircling the external face of the said pocket, the first cord being held in the vicinity of or in contact with the said external face by suitable retaining means which allow the said cord to slide freely, and a second cord, called the internal cord, running parallel to the first cord but on the internal face of the said pocket and held in the vicinity of or in contact with the said internal face by the same retaining means which allow it to slide freely, and by the fact that the said retaining means are formed by rings passed through passage holes through the pocket, the said passage holes being spaced out on a line situated in the vicinity of the upper, open edge of the pocket and parallel with the said upper edge, in such a way that each ring has one part located inside the pocket and the other part located outside the pocket, and that each ring has both the external cord and the internal cord passing through it.
A bag according to the invention may also have the following characteristics, either singly or in combination: - the two free terminal sections of the external cord can leave the pocket freely after passing through two consecutive rings (called exit rings) for the said external cord, while the two free terminal sections of the internal cord emerge on the outside after passing through two adjacent holes, called exit holes, formed in the pocket and located substantially on the contour or in the vicinity of the contour defined by the line of passage holes for the rings, the said exit
holes being substantially in an opposed position
relative to the position defined by the centre of the segment which connects the passage holes of the two exit rings of the external cord;; - the internal cord passes to the outside and then returns to the inside via two adjacent holes formed in the pocket between the two passages holes for the exit rings of the external cord; - the rings are circular, rectangular or, preferably, oval in shape; - the two terminal sections of the external cord, as well as the two terminal sections of the internal cord, are joined at a certain distance from the bag at a point called the joining point, by means of suitable joining means. The joining means may be a ring, an elastic band, or a knot; - the free terminal sections of the internal and external cords comprise a wider section part.In the case where the terminal sections are joined by a knot, the knot itself forms the part with the wider section; - the terminal sections of the internal cord pass in a sliding manner through at least one ring called an external ring, while the terminal sections of the external cord pass in a sliding manner in the opposite direction through the said external ring or rings; - the terminal sections of the internal and external cords pass in opposite directions through two external rings and the said terminal sections each comprise a part with awidersection at their joining point or beyond it, this section being capable of acting as a stop-point for the said external rings.
The invention will not be described in more detail with reference to the accompanying Drawing, in which:
Figure 1 shows a front view of a particular embodiment of the invented bag, which is shown in a flattened state purely for the sake of convenience;
Figure 2 is a partial section along 11- II of Figure 1 through a wall of the bag.
The bag shown is formed by two pocket halves 1 and 2 (only 1 is visible in the Drawing) which form the walls of the bag, being sewn together along the line 3. The line 4 corresponds to the upper, open edge. In the vicinity of the upper edge and parallel with the line 4, the bag is equipped at regular intervals with passage holes, which are not visible in
Figure 1.The bag is equipped with an external cord 5 with two free terminal sections 5a and 5b, and with an internal cord 6, the free terminal sections 6a and 6b of which are shown in Figure 1, these cords being retained with the aid of rings, such as 7, 8, 9, 10, which are passed through the passage holes for the said rings in such a way that each ring has one part, such as 8a, located outside the pocket and one part, such as 8b, located inside the pocket, the section of the passing rings being located in a plane substantially perpendicular to the plane of the wall 1. More specifically, the rings are elongated (see Figure 2) the large axis of the rings being substantially perpendicular to the wall and the smali axis lying substantially in the substantially to the external dimensions of the rings when the latter are put in place in the bag.Naturally, the passage holes for the rings may be of any shape which allows the passage of the said rings. It will be readily appreciated that this shape may be, in particular, that of a rectangle or a letter I, or again that of two adjacent holes connected by a slot, the whole being substantially in the shape of a figure 8.
The rings in this instance have a substantially oval shape, the dimension of the large axis being the same or slightly greater than twice the diameter of the cords plus the thickness of the wall of the bag, and the dimension of the small axis being at least equal to the diameter of the cords.
The internal cord emerges to the outside via two adjacent holes, which are not shown in the Drawing, located slightly below the line of passage holes for the rings, between the hole corresponding to the ring 7 and the passage hole 7a immediately following it (not shown - located on the side 2). In addition, the cord 6 can pass to the outside and then return to the inside via two adjacent holes (not shown) located between the two passage holes for the exit rings of the external cord 5, that is, between the hole for the ring 10 and the passage hole 10a which immediately follows it (not shown - located on the side 2).
The free terminal sections 5a, 5b, 6a and 6b are passed in a sliding manner through two external rings 11, 12.
In addition, the free terminal sections 5a and 5b are joined at a certain distance from the bag by means of a knot which forms a wider part 5c. These knots form the stop-pointforthe sliding of the rings 11 and 12.
The insertion of the cords is effected in the following manner:
The rings, such as 7, 8, etc. are threaded onto the internal cord 6 in a number equal to the number of passage holes for the rings provided in the bag. The cord 6 is folded in two, and its central section, equipped with the rings, is introduced into the bag, bringing the free terminal sections 6a and 6b out again via the two adjacent holes located between 7 and 7a and provided for this purpose, as indicated above. If applicable, the cord 6 is also passed through the two adjacent holes located between 10 and 10a mentioned above.
The cord 6 is then laid along the internal face of the bag, making one part of the rings 10, 13,... ... 9, 8, 7, etc. pass through to the outside and threading the end 5a through each time, so that the cord 5 encircles the greater part of the section of the bag,
passing successively through that part of the rings
10, then 13, etc. then 8, then 7, then 7a, etc. which is
located outside the bag, and soon up to the ring 10a.
Naturally, it is also possible to thread the rings first
on the external cord, and to make the end of the
internal cord 6 enter through a first hole provided for this purpose (between the holes corresponding with
7 and 7a) and to make this end pass successively through that section of the rings such as 7, 8, 9, etc.
which is located on the inside of the bag, finally
bringing the end of the cord 6 out to the outside via the second hole, adjacent to the first, also provided for this purpose between 7 and 7a as indicated
above.
To close the bag, the terminal sections of the internal cord, or preferably just one of these terminal sections, are grasped with one hand, and the free terminal sections of the internal cord, or preferably just one of these sections, are grasped with the other hand and the hands are moved apart so as to increase the length of the free terminal sections, which results in the closure of the pocket. To open the pocket, the fingers of the two hands may be inserted in the opening, for example, and the hands moved apart to enlarge the said opening.
