Abstract

Regulating. - Means are provided to hold open an automatic inlet valve on the cylinder to relieve the compression during the first compression stroke only, to facilitate starting. In the form shown, the inlet valve B, normally closed by a spring b, is held open at starting by means of a rod c w h i c h is pressed against the valve-stem by a lever C pivoted at c<1> and held. by engagement of a catch c<3> thereon with a notch d in a lever D. The lever D is dislodged to allow the valve to close after the first compression stroke, by means of a projection e formed on a member E secured to the half-speed shaft or other rotating member. The member E may be replaced by a reciprocating member.
