Abstract

Fans.-The vanes of a fan of the kind operated by clockwork or electricity to produce light air currents, oscillate some in a vertical and some in a horizontal direction. As shown in Figs. 1 and 2, the fan is formed with two pairs of radiallyarranged vanes 10, 16, pivoted to the top of a casing 1 enclosing the driving mechanism which comprises a motor 2 the shaft of which carries a worm 3 meshing with a wheel 4. the axle of which carries two cranks one operating a forked rod 8 provided with an horizontal slot 9, and the other a forked rod 13 vertically slotted at 14 and pivoted at 15. The movements of the rods 8, 13 cause the vanes 10, 16 to oscillate in vertical and horizontal directions respectively. Fig. 5 shows a fan adapted to stand on the ground, the standard of which is surmounted by a lamp and shade 18 and is utilized to support a table 19 adjustably secured by a slidable clamp 20.
