Abstract

202,431. Parkes, S. R. May 24, 1922. Locks, square - key etc.; wards.-The connector bar operating the follower of a lock or latch, is connected to a revolvable disc engaged by a projection on a second revolvable disc which is turned by the end of a flat key cut to pass a stacked series of fixed ward plates. The ward plates 2, 5, 7 are made with variously shaped holes for the key Fig. 5, and are separated by plates 3, 4, 6, 8 with a round hole for the key as shown in Fig. 12. These plates have two pairs of horns which engage rods a<3> to prevent rotation of the plates. A similarly horned plate 9 is placed at the end of the stack of ward plates and separating plates and carries a revolving disc a<5> which has a hole a<6> for engaging the end of a flat key and a projection a' which passes through a semicircular slot a<8> in a fixed plate and engages a slot a<11> in a revolvable disc a<9> carried by the end plate 11 of the stack. The connector bar B of the lock is engaged by the hole a<10> in the disc a<9> and is secured by a cover plate 12, the whole of the plates being retained by nuts a<12> screwed to the ends of the rods a<3>. When the correctly cut key is inserted, it can be turned in the notches of the ward plates to rotate the disc a<5> which rotate the disc a<9>, turning the bar B to operate the lock. The plate 8 may have side lugs a<4> for attaching the device to the door.
