Abstract
An underwater vehicle is provided with one or more manipulator arms (28) and with manipulator arm actuating means. A reversible motor (42) drives reversible pump (40) and is arranged for communication with a pressure chamber (38), and with the aqueous environment within which the vehicle is intended to operate. A pair of pressure relief valves (46, 48) are connected to the pressure chamber for permitting water transfer between the pressure chamber and the aqueous environment in dependence upon the direction of operation of the pump. The pressure differential between the pressure chamber and the environment is employed to produce hydraulic actuator operation. <IMAGE>
