Abstract

Apparatus for sequentially labeling objects differing from each other in size includes a conveyor 2 which defines a path of movement in an approximately horizontal plane for the objects 4 to be labeled. An arresting device 56 arrests each object in a predetermined portion of the path toward which a face portion 66 of a plunger 50 is directed. The label 10 to be applied is supplied to the face portion, and the plunger 50 is moved toward the arrested object in a direction inclined to said plane at an acute angle until the label 10 is applied to the object 4 by pressure exerted by the plunger 50. A reversing mechanism 68 responds to the exerted plunger pressure for retracting the plunger from the labeled object. <IMAGE>
