Abstract

A device for cutting to a predetermined length bars issuing from a wire-drawing machine is mounted on a reciprocating carriage 5 on the base of the wire-drawing machine, gripper means 6 on the carriage engaging the bar to be cut and said cutting device comprising a cutting tool 15 radially displaceable towards and away from the bar to be cut and rotating about the bar itself in order to complete the cut during the active movement of said carriage (5) together with the bar. The tool is mounted in an annular member 13 keyed to a sleeve 9 which is rotated during cutting. Also during cutting, engagement of a roller 24 with a cam surface 25 causes the member 13 to slide along the sleeve, a cam slot 17 in the sleeve in which the cutter is mounted moving the cutter radially inwards. <IMAGE>
