Abstract

Due to differing degrees of wall roughness of runners/branch runners 3,4 of a multi-impression injection mould having a central sprue passageway 2 and due to the runners/branch runners 3,4 having cross-sectional areas which are different from one another, the quality of mouldings formed in individual impressions can vary. The roughness leads to differences in melt speed along the runners 3,4 and consequent unequal heating and hardening. Different cross-section areas lead to unequal melt distribution and different impression-filling speeds. These disadvantages are overcome by providing a distribution element 6, extending along said sprue passageway 2, in the transition zone 5 between the passageway 2 and the runners 3,4. This has the effect of increasing the pressure of a plastics or elastomeric melt in any runner in which the melt speed has dropped below that in others, thereby restoring equality of melt speed in all runners. The position or attitude of the distribution element 6 is alterable. <IMAGE>
