Abstract

A porous, free-flowing, dust- free agglomerate comprises a combustible metal powder (e.g. of aluminium, optionally mixed with silicon, magnesium or iron) which has been mixed with a synthetic resin binder (e.g. a solution of a polyvinyl alcohol adhesive) and the mixture subjected to build-up granulation to form the agglomerate having particles of size 100 to 200 microns and an apparent density of 0.4-1.1 g/cc. The agglomerate may be used as such as a fuel for blasting agents or may be used as a carrier, e.g. after sizing to a range of 100 to 850 microns, with which a sensitiser or other fine fuel powder is mixed so as to give a highly effective blasting material.
