Abstract
An oscillating transmission drive for a bicycle includes a pair of pedal cranks 5, 6 to each of which is connected a contrate gear sector 8, 9 having an angular extent of about 135 DEG . The sprocket wheel 4 is positioned between the gear sectors and has a smaller diameter than each sector, the wheel 4 being secured to a shaft 3. The cranks 5, 6 are mounted on the shaft 3 by means of unidirectional clutches 7. A rotary lay gear 15 is attached to the bicycle frame, with its rotary axis horizontal and engages each contrate gear sector at a position outside the sprocket wheel. A downward movement of one pedal crank causes the other pedal crank to move upwards, and the bicycle is hence propelled by an oscillating pedal movement. <IMAGE>
