Abstract

A two-stage pump for maintaining a constant delivery rate independently of viscosity fluctuations has a first stage e.g. a gear pump 2, which supplies fluid e.g. fuel oil, to an intermediate chamber 8. A second stage e.g. a gear pump 4, delivers a smaller quantity of fluid from the chamber 8 to a delivery line 11. The line 11 and a return line 9 from the chamber 8 are connected to opposite sides 14, 15 of a diaphragm 13. The fluid flows through throttling orifices 21, 22 regulated by the diaphragm. The diaphragm regulates the pressure differential in the lines 9, 11 to zero. Thus there is a zero pressure-gradient at the second stage, so that the viscosity changes have no effect on the delivery rate. The line 9 may contain a pressure-relief valve 17; and the second stage may be driven through reduction gears 3. <IMAGE>
