Abstract

A two-part separable inductive coupler for the underwater connection and disconnection of a load with an electrical supply comprises a first stainless steel casing 13 incorporating a gapped magnetic circuit 1, 3, a portion 5 of a second magnetic circuit, and a winding 9 linking these, and a second stainless steel casing 15 incorporating the complementary portion 7 of the second magnetic circuit linked by a secondary winding. The gapped circuit 1, 3 ensures a certain impedance level when the parts are separated. The casing is filled with epoxy resin 17. A capacitor C acts to ensure that the coupler behaves as a ferroresonant circuit. <IMAGE>
