Abstract
The apparatus (10) comprises an assembly translatable relative to the rigid sheet (31) under investigation. The assembly is provided with first and second aligned and opposed nozzles (15,26) which are adapted in operation to provide two aligned, opposed and impinging jets of fluid. The fluid jet from the nozzle (15) is of higher pressure than the fluid jet from the nozzle (26). Consequently the pressure of the fluid jet from the nozzle (26) is influenced by the impingement thereon of the fluid from the nozzle (15). A differential pressure gauge (28) which is responsive to pressure changes in the fluid jet from the nozzle (26) is provided so that the interception of the impinging fluid jets by the rigid sheet (31) upon the translation of the assembly relative to the rigid sheet (31) may be detected. The rigid sheet (31) may be a thin abrasive grinding wheel. <IMAGE>
