Abstract
An elongate magnetoresistive element 3 bearing a pattern of equipotential strips 12 extending obliquely to its longitudinal axis bridges a gap between two components 6, 7 of magnetically permeable material one 6 of which, in operation, is in direct flux coupling with a magnetic recording medium 2 and the other 7 of which is in flux coupling with the recording medium via a further element 4 of magnetically permeable material, in particular ferrite. <IMAGE>
