Abstract

This application relates to the after-treatment of black and white silver images on a water-impermeable base, e.g. a polyethylene laminated base. The print material is treated after the development step with an aqueous solution of a compound which comprises both a free thiol group and a free amino group, suitable compounds being cysteine, 2- mercaptoethylamine, thiourea, thiosemicarbazide or thioacetamide. Improved print stability is obtained by use of this treatment. The compound can be present in the fixer, or water wash bath or the developed, fixed and washed material can be treated with a solution of the compound.
