Abstract
1330729 Photographic process INTERNATIONAL BUSINESS MACHINES CORP 19 April 1971 [1 June 1970] 25603/71 Heading G2C A hardened gelatine photographic recordis prepared by (1) forming a silver image in a gelatine film by exposing, developing and fixing a silver compound photographic emulsion, (2) converting the silver into a silver salt, (3) hardening the gelatine in the non-image areas, and (4) removing the silver salts and unhardened gelatine from the film, in which steps (2) and (3) can be effected in either order and step (3) is effected without using a tanning bleach or tanning developer. Specifically, a silver halide emulsion is stress-relieved in a high humidity atmosphere, exposed, pre-hardened, developed, stopped and fixed; the image-bearing emulsion is then bleached and hardened ( in either order) and the silver salts formed removed in a fix bath. The hardening is effected only in the silver-free areas by either (a) treating with a dichromate, exposing to long-wave U.V. and treating with bisulphite to remove dichromate, or (b) exposing to short-wave U.V. The processed emulsion may be washed with a wetting agent solution and dried in alcohol baths. The process is especially for making volume phase holograms.
