Abstract
A vacuum tube arrangement (e.g high power X-ray tube) comprises a rotary anode 1 and a high-vacuum rotary pump 12 disposed in a common casing 15, the rotor of said pump being mechanically linked to said anode 1 whereby rotation of said rotor causes both rotation of said anode and evacuation of the space around said anode 1 within the casing 15. The arrangement avoids sealing problems where the anode shaft leaves the vacuum chamber. Also included are partial vacuum pump 16, electric motor 20, air bearing sleeve 18, axial thrust air-bearing 21, the compressed air also cooling the motor, and hollow rotor shaft 8 for liquid coolant supply to anode 1. <IMAGE>
