Abstract
In melt spinning, a first elemental stream with extensional flow derived by passage through a conical opening 22 in the spinerette plate 20 is merged with a second elemental stream with shear flow derived by passage through a circularly cylindrical counterbore 24 and a circularly cylindrical orifice 26, the two streams being combined at the same velocity at a point below the spinerette face 20, and the resulting combined stream is quenched into a filament. The filament is either immediately drawn or spun at a sufficiently high spinning speed, yielding an oriented textured filament. <IMAGE>
