Abstract

Apparatus for controlling the engagement of a vehicle clutch operates during the connection of the vehicle drive to a power take-off unit (54). Such connections can result in damage if an operator engages the clutch too quickly. The present invention overcomes such a possibility by throttling the release of fluid pressure to control the rate of engagement of the clutch, the pressure being initially used to extend a cylinder (38) against a restoring force, to thus disengage the clutch, when pressure is supplied to engage the power take-off (54). <IMAGE>
