Abstract

A hydraulic pressure-generating device, e.g. for operating a crimping tool, comprises a low-pressure pump piston 51 operable e.g. by a pedal, to feed fluid to move the tool toward the workpiece, and a high-pressure pump piston 55 operable to feed fluid move the tool to effect the crimping operation. The low pressure pump delivery is by-passed to reservoir 56 when a first delivery pressure is exceeded, delivery valve 80 being held closed, high pressure pump 55 then raising the pressure until pressure-relief valve 60 operates. A foot-operated valve 50 is actuated to vent the delivery line to the reservoir for release of the tool. <IMAGE>
