Abstract

1490777 Brake actuators ROBERT BOSCH GmbH 5 May 1975 [19 June 1974] 18696/75 Heading F2F A brake actuator comprises a spring loaded cylinder 6 connected at 7 to brake actuating linkage 8, 9 and a valve member 19 for selectively connecting the cylinder to a hydraulic pressure source 26 or a discharge line 32. In the event of failure of source 26 after the brake has been applied, valve member 19 may be reciprocated by repeated operation of lever or pedal 37 to pump fluid from chamber 31 to cylinder 6 to release the brake. The spring 4 loads cylinder 6 in the brake applying sense and brake release is effected by moving the lever or pedal 37 so that valve 19 admits fluid to the cylinder from source 26 via passage 14 in fixed piston 10. When the pressure is sufficiently high valve 19 moves downwardly until one of its control edges 23 cuts off passage 14. Brake application is effected by spring 4 when lever 37 is moved in the opposite sense so that cylinder 6 exhausts via passage 15, the interior 29 of valve 19 and chamber 31. A check valve 28 ensures that failure of source 26 does not cause immediate brake application.
