Abstract
A tilt sensor for indicating inclination from vertical has a light source (10) in line with a photodetector (11). The light path is eclipsed by a sphere (14) in a cup (12) to an extent determined by the inclination of the sensor. An indication of tilt away from vertical in any direction is thereby obtained. The direction of tilt may be determined by using an array of detectors or an array of sequentially energized light sources. <IMAGE>
