Abstract
201,586. Gill, B. May 11, 1922. Coils, machines and apparatus for making.- Relates to improvements in a device for winding and forming coils for dynamo-electric machines and transformers which comprises a group of guides about which the coil is wound as a loop, the guides being mounted so that they can be moved to bend the loop into the required shape for application to the rotor or stator of the machine. The end guides 15, Fig. 3, are adjustably mounted on a bar 11 and the side guides 19 are supported on plates 22, the bar 11 and plates 22 being carried by a platform 3 which can be rotated horizontally. The height of the bar 11 may be adjusted by screws 74. The two members 19 constituting each side guide can be adjusted relatively to each other in a longitudinal direction on the plate 22, Fig. 4. The plates 22 are inclined towards each other, and the members 19 are formed with a right-angle bend in which the coil is wound. The members 19 are so arranged that the mutual inclination of the sides of the coil corresponds to the inclination of the rotor or stator slots in which the coil will be placed. The end guides 15 comprise a pin 15 and horizontal plates 17, 18 between which the coil is wound. The coil may be made up of a number of wires fed simultaneously to the winding device. Each of the wires is drawn first through a separate tensioning device and then between two rollers one of which is formed with grooves so that the wires are evenly spaced. When the coil is wound, it is clamped in each side guide-member 19 by a block 84, Fig. 5, and plate 86, the latter passing through an opening in the block 84. The coil is then spread out by raising one plate 22 and lowering the other in a vertical direction. This is accomplished by means of the posts 27 on which the plates are mounted, the posts 27 being formed with screwthreads engaging with nuts which can be rotated by a gear-wheel 36. The driving-mechanism 29, 32 is disengaged from the platform 3 by operating the clutch 39 so that it rotates the gearwheel 36 independently of the platform 3. The ends of the coil may be curved so as to conform to the peripheral curvature of the end of the armature core.
