Abstract
644,761. Armature winding machines. GENERAL MOTORS CORPORATION. Oct. 2, 1948, No. 25709. Convention date, Oct. 10, 1947. Drawings to Specification. [Class 35] A machine for inserting " hairpin " conductors axially into armature slots has a movable lower support for raising the conductors in a holder in which they have been manually arranged into a fixed upper support having manually applied fingers for holding the conductors in spaced relationship, whereupon the empty holder is replaced (after lowering the lower support) by the armature core which is raised so that the conductor just enter its slots. The conductors are then pressed downwards into the slots by a ram, the initial movement of which causes release of the conductor holding fingers. The ram is moved downwards on to the ends of the conductors by fluid pressure and just prior to its movement additional means may hold the core as well as the fluid-operated piston used for raising and lowering the lower support for the preceding operations. As soon as the conductors are positioned in the slots, the ram is raised and the lower support unlatched and lowered with the wound armature.
