Abstract

Coils, apparatus for making.-Eickemeyer coils are constructed on a former, as shown in Fig. 1, and are afterwards bent to the angle required to suit the armature by means of a " setter " shown in Fig. 2. The former consists of a rotatable device having clips 6 - - 9, die pieces 20 having rollers 22, and guide-pins 24, 25. A coil is wound from a number of wires or strips simultaneously, commencing from the clip 6, and the frame 1 revolved till the wires form a straight line between guide-pins 24. 25. The short side 26 of the coil is then formed by the die-pieces 20 operated by screwed spindles, as shown, or by a cam and lever. The flat coil formed is then placed in the " setter," the portion 26 being secured by the clamp 27, and the portion 23 in the clamp 31 mounted on the screwed spindle 33 and extended to the required angle.
