Abstract

For a thorough ultrasonic examination of a circumferential tube weld it is desirable to move a probe in a systematic scan extending around the tube and also towards and away from the weld parallel to the tube axis. There are described and illustrated a platform 5 provided with clamping means 6 for positioning the platform in relation to the tube and adapted for supporting and guiding the rotation of a probe carrying sleeve 7 adapted for embracing the tube, driving means 22 (Figure 5, not shown) for effecting rotation of the sleeve around the tube, further driving means 23 (Figure 6, not shown) for effecting independent rotation around the tube of a ring component of the sleeve and mechanism 61-63 mounted in the sleeve and arranged to be driven in response to speed differences between the sleeve and the said ring component thereof and when so driven to move a probe carrier 61 longitudinally of the sleeve. <IMAGE>
