Abstract

Tar pitch, produced from a petroleum oil comprising components boiling above 350 DEG C by steam cracking at 700-1000 DEG C for a residence time of 3-100 milliseconds is heat treated at 450-550 DEG C and 50-150 kg/cm<2> (G) for 1-15 minutes and subsequently treated in a heat soaker at 350-450 DEG C and 0.5-10 kg/cm<2> (G) for 15 minutes -10 hours.
