Abstract

Novel cephalosporins of the formula (I): <IMAGE> wherein R is hydrogen or a lower alkyl group, and Y is an acyloxy, carbamoyloxy or -S-Het group (Het is a substituted or unsubstituted nitrogen-containing heterocyclic group selected from tetrazolyl, thiadiazolyl and triazolyl, or pharmaceutically acceptable salts thereof, are highly active against a broad spectrum of gram-negative bacteria such as e.g., Escherichia coli, Krebsiella pneumoniae, Proteus vulgaris, Proteus mirabilis, Proteus morganii, Proteus rettgeri, Citrobacter freundii, Enterobacter cloacae and Serratia marcescens, and, therefore, are of value for the treatment and prophylaxis of various diseases in mammalian animals including domestic fowls and human beings, of which such bacteria are the causative agents.
